Successful participation of Lithuanian athletes in BIGBANK Gold League series

Lithuanian athletes participated at the third stage of BIGBANK Gold League series, which took place in Tallinn, February 10, 2010. Lithuanian sportsmen competed in 200-meter run, 60-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump and triple jump events. In the men's 200-meter run, Lithuanian athlete Egidijus Dilys showed the best result (21.85 seconds) and won the first place.

It took 1 minute and 57.38 seconds for Karolis Martišauskas to run the men's 800-meter distance, he won the third place. Meanwhile, Mantas Dilys jumped 15.84 meters in the triple-jump competition and won the first place and the second place in the long jump competition with a jump of 7.02 meters. In the high-jump competition Raivydas Stanys demonstrated the second result (2.15 meters): "I am not satisfied with the today's result, I feel unprepared. However, the people, warm audience greetings and grand event organization make me feel happy for being able to participate in the event,"- said Raivydas Stanys. The sportsman also added that he has been striving to get into the winter stage and hopes to come back to Estonia to participate in the BIGBANK Gold League summer stage.   

In the women‘s 60-meter run, Sonata Tamošaitytė won the third place with the result of 8.28 seconds. Inga Kalvaitytė, competing in the 800-meter run section, boasted a result of 2 minutes and 20.06 seconds and won the second place, while her colleague Jurgita Gedvytitė took the third place with 2 minutes and 26.93 seconds. The high-jumper Karina Vnukova‘s achievement was 1.76 meters and the third place. The triple-jumper Jolanta Verseckaitė demonstrated the fourth result (12.92).

BIGBANK Gold League is an athletics championship, which today is the most reputable and biggest-scale athletics series in the Baltic States. BIGBANK Gold League dates back to the year 2006, when three competition stages took place during the first winter session. BIGBANK Gold League summer stage consists of five stages, where sportsmen compete for the main prize. This championship is attended by the most famous Estonian athletes as well as sportsmen from Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, Russia and other countries.
