On Saturday, May 8th, Large Family Day in Vilnius University Botanical Garden brought together about 270 participants from about 70 families.
Event organizers said that Large Family Day was a thrilling and heartfelt celebration. “The participants showed good mood and smiles, the weather did not disappoint, children and parents enjoyed a variety of entertainments, so I think we can really rejoice at a successful celebration” - says the Head of the Association of Large Families, Angelė Kostogrizienė.
Some families demonstrated their musical talents and, thereafter, all participants rejoiced at the blooming Botanical garden and participated in the orientation races, rode ponies, and participated in other games.
On Large Family Day, the family was announced which won the title “Large Family 2010” – the family of Zita and Kęstas Mačiuliai were honoured with it and received from BIGBANK AS branch a cash prize of 2000 LTL. Z. and K. Mačiulis raise six children who are actively involved in social activities. ”The family is very diligent, agree well with each other and support each other. The whole family is actively involved in various community events, are interested in cultural life and always help people in trouble. Despite all concerns, which sometimes fell on the shoulders of the family, Mačiuliai maintained a healthy sense of humour and unfading optimism,”- said A. Kostogrizienė. Children from large families presented more than a hundred pictures for the “My Family” contest and the best young designers were awarded with prizes set up by sponsors, organizers and the patron of the event Daiva Vitkienė. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour Rimantas Dagys and the representatives of the Social Security and Labour Ministry Lina Bušinskaitė and Tomas Milevičius forwarded greetings of the Minister Donatas Jankauskas.
Large Family Day, which will become an annual tradition, was organised for the first time in Lithuania and at the same time took place in Estonia and Latvia. About 270 participants from Lithuania participated in the event. The initiators of Large Family Day are the Association of Large Families and BIGBANK AS branch in Lithuania. The patron of the event Daiva Vitkienė cares a lot for the large families for a number of years already.
