Organizers of the largest Baltic charity dog show "BIG Match Show" conducted a survey which sought to identify dog raising problems. To the question whether the citizens of Vilnius grow dogs responsibly, even 65 percent of the respondents replied in the negative.
"For the second time in the preparation of the "Big Match Show", we wanted to give more weight to it, we wanted a bit more than just entertainment. All initiatives supported by BIGBANK has a strong and important message, and a broadening traditions of these initiatives help to spread these messages to more people. This year we have completed a survey aimed to show that animals need to be grown responsibly, and then the problem of homeless animals will decline," – said one of the exhibition organizers, the head of bank BIGBANK Roland Norvilas.
In the survey dog-owners were asked if they collect their pet excrement. The lack of special cases was named by 23 percent of the respondents, 39 percent dog-owners told never collecting the excrement, the same number of respondents claimed to take all of their pet recovers, even if there are no special cases around.
Lack of facilities for dressage was named by 25 percent who participated in the survey, 49 percent said they train their dogs everywhere - not necessarily in the special equipped zone for this purpose, while 26 percent respondents said that do not train their dog at all.
When asked whether people use muzzles for their dogs, 66 percent said that it is not necessary because their dogs are peaceful without wearing them. However, 26 percent of respondents said they sometimes use the muzzle for their dogs and only 8 percent said that they do it all the time.
Survey focused on not only people who raise dogs, but also the neighborhood residents. They were asked whether the neighborhood dogs causes any inconvenience. 13 percent of respondents said they feel uncomfortable when the dogs are outside without muzzles or frenums. 20 percent named the dog excrement in courtyards problem, 21 percent are dissatisfied with rude, noisy and aggressive dogs. For the 46 percent of participated in the survey, domestic animals do not present any inconvenience.
The „BIG Match Show" will be held in Vilnius on the 16th of October, it's patron – a journalist, reporter and sworn dog lover Skaiva Jaseviciute believes that not nice words and promises, but good examples effectively change people's attitudes towards dogs and other domestic animal raising. "I am raising dachshunds breed dogs, recently I have registered the kennel, so for me dograising culture is very important - I interact with other dograisers, help people planning to buy a pet, advise them and I feel that the truthful work leaves a veil behinda, which encloses more and more people . I am pleased to join the BIG Match Show, and in particular to its main objectives - to maintain the correct animal raising and to promote sensitivity to the homeless animals," – said Skaiva Jaseviciute.
BIG Match Show - the largest annual charitable event in the Baltic countries, which seeks to draw attention to the homeless animal problem, find solutions and to support the shelter for such animals giving organizations. The event is held by animal charity organization PI "Lese" and bank BIGBANK. The initiative also seeks to draw attention to the responsibilities that people take together with a pet and the goal of big match show is to educate people and to raise the culture of dog raising. The event will take place simultaneously in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania: the sixth time in Estonia, third time in Latvia and the for the second time in Lithuania.
